People from all corners of the UK, all age groups and all political parties agree: Politics is NOT working.
As far back as I can remember, the majority of the public has always ended up with a government they didn't support. It makes no sense at all!

I'm in my 40s now and I'm tired of every General Election feeling like it's an existential crisis to stop the other side (whatever one considers that to be) ... We end up with a winner takes all situation even though the "winner" barely got a third of the votes.

Brits have rated the service provided by our politics 2 stars out of 5 - and 90% have no confidence that our political system can tackle their priorities.
From Restore on the right to Your Party on the left and every party in between - even Labour voters who currently have a majority government - we Brits do not have confidence that politics can fix the problems that matter to us - whether that is the NHS, climate change, housing, cost of living, immigration, or anything else. 94% do not believe that our democracy represents everyone.
That is not a sign of a healthy functioning democracy. It's no wonder the turnout in the 2024 general election was one of the lowest in history. It's no wonder people are turning to more parties than ever in an attempt to change the status quo - but our political system just was not set up as a multi-party democracy.
It's clear we have to fix politics to fix the country - but how?

We can build a consensus for a new way forward
A massive majority of those who filled in our survey - again from every party - agreed that:
- We should be able to vote for the party we believe in - not have to vote tactically
- The % of seats won should reflect the % of votes cast
- A government should have the support of a majority of the country
- Politics would work better if Politicians had to cooperate with each other
We cannot fix politics, and restore trust, without addressing these fundamental concerns. If your car breaks down - you don't change the tires you fix the engine.
We need a fair voting system, and we need it before the next election.
First Past the Post was never fit for purpose but it is now worse than ever with at least 5 parties competing for votes in every seat. If the next election is held under FPTP, whoever “wins”, the majority of the country loses.
