Electoral Reform also means limiting political Donations
Yesterday, Liberal Democrat MP Manuela Perteghella moved a motion in the House of Commons calling for limits on political donations. Her 10 Minute Rule Motion passed its first reading unopposed and would carry out the following vital changes that are needed to protect our democracy from malign interefence:
- Puting a cap on political donations
- Reviewing at what level the cap should be set
- Restricting donations made by foreign nationals through UK companies
Introducing a cap on political donations is not about limiting participation; it is about making sure that every vote, every voice and every citizen matters equally in our political system

As Manuela says, true Electoral Reform involves more than just replacing our voting system with something fairer. She is also a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Fair Elections and her motion is another indicator of Liberal Democrat leadership in this crucial issue.
