Spring conference report and what's coming up

27 Mar 2022

Our online Spring Conference saw two well-attended, information-filled fringe meetings.

On Saturday March 12, LDER President Wendy Chamberlain MP hosted "Linking PR to what really matters," with panellists Wera Hobhouse MP, London Assembly member Hina Bokhari and two of our target seat PPCs, Josh Babarinde (Eastbourne) and Monica Harding (Esher and Walton). A recording will be available shortly, and we will contact you with details when it's ready to view.

The following day, LDER combined forces with ally organisation Unlock Democracy to explore "The Route to Proportional Representation." Unlock's Chief Executive and our former MP Tom Brake chaired the meeting, and speakers included Lord William Wallace, former Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie, LDER exec member Sarah Lewis and - continuing our determination to reach beyond our own party - Laura Parker from Labour for a New Democracy. If you missed this first time round, or want a repeat viewing, you can watch the recording here.

Opposing the Elections Bill

Immediately after Conference, LDER held a members' and supporters' zoom meeting with Lord Newby to discuss how we can keep supporting our peers' spirited opposition to the Elections Bill, now making its way through the Lords. We'll be in touch again shortly with an action plan for all of us to join.

Thanks to all our members and supporters for being part of our campaigns and events.

And ... for all Cheshire based supporters…

Just getting under way - a local Make Votes Matter branch in the county of Cheshire! So if you live there, or very close by - join in! Write to: mvm.cheshire4pr@gmail.com

All power to Cheshire activists!

AND - STOP PRESS - Please vote!

LDER has been shortlisted by Make Votes Matter as Ally Campaigner of the month for March 2022! It's in recognition of the two strong fringe meetings we staged at Spring Conference.

Polling is open now so click here to cast your vote!

Obviously it would be great if you vote for us and we're hoping you do that - but there are three other serious contributors worthy of attention. And as MVM is using the alternative vote, you can of course list your choices in order of preference!

Thanks for your support.
